About Us

The Building Owners and Managers Institute (BOMI) of Canada was founded in 1974 by members of the Building Owners and Managers The Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) who recognized a need for quality education in the commercial property industry.

Since its inception, BOMI Canada has helped advance the careers of thousands of professionals through specialized courses and four designation programs:

1. The Real Property Administrator (RPA®) for property managers;
   
2. The Facilities Management Administrator (FMA®) for facilities professionals;
   
3. The System Maintenance Technician (SMT®) for systems personnel;
   
4. The Systems Maintenance Administrator (SMA®) for systems supervisors.

As the leader in commercial property education for over 30 years, BOMI’s educational content and select pool of professional instructors ensure consistent, high-quality education and skill-enhancing learning opportunities. Course materials for the RPA®, FMA®, SMT®, and SMA® designation programs are produced in the United States by the Building Owners and Managers Institute International (BOMI International), headquartered in Annapolis, Maryland. To ensure that these programs include appropriate Canadian content, BOMI Canada works closely with the Institute and Canadian authors and reviewers. Just as importantly, we work closely with our students in Canada, helping them choose the appropriate educational track, decide on a study method that best fits their learning style, enroll in BOMI, register for courses, and maintain their designation once they’ve graduated.

OUR MISSION
Founded to provide industry professionals with career-building education, BOMI Canada is a certified educational institute and a registered charity.

It is the mission of BOMI Canada to promote and deliver the highest quality comprehensive and relevant education available to the property and facilities management industries in Canada.

Last year alone, more than 2,000 students in Canada registered for BOMI courses. Those who choose BOMI come from all sectors and all levels of responsibility. Over the past several years, BOMI’s educational programs have achieved wide recognition throughout the property industry in both the public and private sectors. Within the private sector, every major property and facilities management firm in the country has employees registered in BOMI programs. Public Works and Government Services Canada (PWGSC) requires its employees to achieve the RPA®or FMA®designation as a condition of employment for certain positions, and it also recognizes the SMT®/SMA®designations. Many provincial government agencies-British Columbia Buildings Corporation, Ontario Ministry of Government Services, and Alberta Public Works, among others-also choose BOMI as the education resource for their employees.
